Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Network slow and solution

2011/12/31歲修重開機後發現透過網路backup速度變慢，大約只有250MB/min (正常應該是1000MB/min左右)。

一開始猜測可能是重開機後Windows update安裝的東西生效造成的。(後來證實不是)
檢查Event log發現關機前安裝了三個Security Update：

Restart Required: To complete the installation of the following updates, the computer will be restarted within 15 minutes:
- Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 R2 x86 (KB2656358)
- Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2656352)
- Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 on Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, Server 2008 x86 (KB2657424)

如果uninstall這三個Security Update又要重開機，所以改為更新Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet driver。更新後以FTP測試傳檔速度，download 578MB速度為35MB/sec，download 3.46GB的速度為3.2MB/sec (而且會有Windows卡住的感覺)。

反覆測試FTP download 3.46GB檔案，發現一開始傳檔速度有40MB/sec，但是download超過1GB之後速度突然降為4MB/sec。查到這兩篇文章說明了原因：

因為Windows預設會用一半的RAM當作cache，這一台Server有2GB RAM，所以一開始download會暫存在RAM，超過1GB後開始轉到硬碟，所以是硬碟慢造成的。

找來CrystalDiskMark測試硬碟的write速度，果然只有4MB/sec。這時回想起來歲修後開機時，這一台Server曾經出現BIOS回復預設值的訊息，有可能是主機板的電池沒電了。

重新開機檢查IBM ServeRAID設定，RAID write cache居然是disable！把它改為Enable，開機後再測試FTP download 3.46GB檔案，速度已經恢復全程都是40MB/sec。
